Detailed Uganda Gorilla Trekking Itinerary Safari
Day 1: Flight to Kibale & The Chimpanzee Encounter
Your adventure begins after an early breakfast in Entebbe. Your driver will transfer you to the airport for your morning flight to Kasese Airstrip, near Kibale Forest. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by your new guide, who will drive you through beautiful crater lake scenery to your lodge. After checking in and enjoying a delicious lunch, you will proceed to the park headquarters for the main event.
After a short briefing, your expert ranger will lead you into the dense forest. Kibale is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees, and the experience is an exhilarating assault on the senses. You will follow their distinctive calls, listening for crashing sounds in the canopy above, until you find them. Unlike the serene gorillas, chimpanzees are energetic and chaotic. You will spend a magical hour observing their complex social dynamics as they swing through trees, groom each other, and communicate loudly—a truly wild and unforgettable experience.
Day 2: A Scenic Journey Through Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi
Following breakfast, you will depart for Bwindi. This is no mere transfer; it is a full-day scenic and wildlife-rich journey that takes you directly through the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will traverse the park from its northern side down to its famous southern sector, Ishasha, where you will stop for a picnic lunch.
The Ishasha sector is world-renowned for its unique population of tree-climbing lions, and you will enjoy a game drive specifically searching for these magnificent predators lounging in the branches of giant fig trees. Along the way, you have excellent chances of spotting elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and topis. This drive showcases the incredible biodiversity of the region before you continue south, ascending into the highlands that cradle the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 3: The Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi
Today is the pinnacle of your safari. After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters for a 7:30 AM briefing. Here, park staff will brief you on the gorilla families and trekking etiquette. You will then meet your lead guide and begin your journey into the ancient, mist-shrouded Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
The trek can take anywhere from two to seven hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. It can be challenging, but the journey through this incredible, biodiverse forest is an experience in itself. The moment you finally come face-to-face with the mountain gorillas is something you will never forget. You will have one precious hour to quietly observe them in their natural habitat, a majestic silverback watching over his family, juveniles playing, and mothers tending to their young. It is a profoundly moving and life-affirming experience, and the core of our Uganda Gorilla Trekking Packages. In the evening, you may opt for a gentle community walk to learn about the local Bakiga and Batwa cultures.
Day 4: Farewell Flight from Bwindi to Entebbe
After a final, leisurely breakfast at the lodge, your driver-guide will transfer you to the nearby Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip. Here you will board your scheduled flight back to Entebbe International Airport (EBB). This scenic flight saves you a full day of driving, offering a final aerial view of Uganda’s beautiful landscapes and marking the end of your extraordinary 4-day primate safari.
