Gorilla and Chimpanzee Habituation in Uganda

Gorilla habituation Experience in Uganda

Standard gorilla treks give you the chance to spend up to one hour in the company in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which limits one’s interaction with the gorillas to only an hour, Gorilla Habituation allows a person 4 hours in the company of the gorillas. Also, one spends a little bit more -US$1500 for each person needing to do the Habituation experience dissimilar from the US$600 paid for gorilla tracking.

Visitors booked for gorilla habituation experience gather at the Rushaga sector of Bwindi for a briefing by park officials and the research team at 7:30 am before commencing the activity at 8:00 am. The minimum age for gorilla habituation experience in Uganda is 15 years of age. One needs to be fit enough to take part in the gorilla habituation process. This is because the activity may include hiking through steep and dense parts of the forest. Those with an infectious disease are not allowed to take part in the gorilla habituation process. Human diseases like the flu can threaten an entire gorilla family. Tourists are not allowed to use flash camera lights while observing gorillas. Keep a distance of at least 7 meters away to avoid provoking them.

Chimpanzee habituation Experience in Uganda

The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is one of the most popular activities in Kibale National Park. Kibale is special because it is one of the few places where tourists can do both the standard chimpanzee trekking or go for the Chimpanzee habituation experience. Chimpanzee habituation refers to the process of making chimps used by human beings around them. It takes about 2 years to complete the process. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale allows tourists only one hour with the chimps after locating them. During the chimpanzee habituation process, tourists spend the whole day with the chimps.

On the day you will be going Chimpanzee habituating, you will start off with an early morning breakfast, get your lunch packed, and head out to meet your guide that will lead you into the forest. Only a maximum of 4 people per group inclusive of the researchers and guides are permitted to go see these Chimps. You are then taken to see the place where the primates built their nests the previous night.

However, Chimpanzee habituation is not the only activity you should be sure to do on this day because Kibale National Park is not only rich in primates but other things as well. Besides the 12 primate species in the park like the Central African Monkey, the Black and White Colobus Monkey, the Blue Monkey, the L’Hoest’s Monkey, and the Ugandan Red Colobus Monkey there are other life groups here like the mammals that include the Red and Blue Duikers, the Sitatungas, the Giant Forest Hogs, the Bushbucks, the Bush pigs, the African Buffalo and Common Warthogs. Carnivores like the two otter species, the lions, African Golden cats, Leopards, and different kinds of Mongooses.
