6 Days Rwanda Birding safari

This 6 Day Birding Safari takes you through the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda. While other East African Countries are famous for wildlife safaris, many naturalists would argue that Uganda and Rwanda offer an experience that is more diverse, exceptional and breathe taking.You will spice up your bird watching tour with an unforgettable Gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking adventure in the Volcanoes and Nyungwe National Park respectively

Day 1: Arrival at the Kigali city Airport

On your arrival at the Airport in Rwanda, you will be met by a tour guide from Silverback gorilla tours for a warm a welcome to the Land of “a Thousand Hills”. You will start off your 6 Days Bird Watching Rwanda safari with a journey transfer southwards to the Nyungwe Forest National Park. After a long journey of 4-5 hours, we shall arrive and check-in at the lodge/hotel for dinner and overnight

Day 2: Bird Watching in Nyungwe forest

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park; enroute has stops along Nyabarongo river basin for more bird watching. Optional – visit to the Cathedral of Kabgayi and other many historical sites such as the ancient King’s palace at Nyanza, National Museum at Huye. Overnight at Gisakura Guest House.

Day 3:Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe

After breakfast, set out to arrive at the park headquarters on time for a briefing on the basics of a successful chimpanzee trekking adventure. Chimpanzee tracking usually lasts for not more than 4 hours before you retire for lunch at the lodge. You will check out of the lodge and drive northwards to the Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest House, or Muhabura guest house, among other lodges available. Meal plan: F/B

Day 4:Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

The primary activity today will be Mountain Gorilla Tracking. Mountain gorillas are the largest living primates and the world’s most endangered apes with an estimated population of less than 800 left in the wild of the whole world and none in zoos. The Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla beringei), was not yet known to the scientist until 1902. They are the next closest living relatives to human beings after the two chimpanzee species, sharing 97% DNA with us.

Day 5:Golden Monkey Trekking

Begin the day with an adventurous golden monkey trekking activity in the Volcanoes National Park still. After 3-4 hours of the photographic adventure, Return to lodge for lunch and set out to visit Dian Fossey’ Grave. You will hike at Karisoke research center and explore further the life of Dian Fossey, learn about her effort to conserve these beautiful creatures and the legacy she left behind. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B.

Day 6:Departure

This day is dedicated to birding on mountain Bigugu searching for more rare bird species. You will continue to visit different locations in the park to try and see as much as you can and later transfer to Kigali for your flight
